Looking after and Cleaning your Jewellery
Keeping your Jewellery in good Condition.
To keep your jewellery free of dust and in good condition, items are best kept inside a jewellery box or inside the original gift box in which you received it.
Sterling silver does tarnish over time - this is a normal process - and should therefore best be kept away (when not worn) from both daylight/sunlight and from moisture.
To clean (polish) your jewellery items, you can use either “Hagerty Silver & Multimetal Foam” (this is a terracotta-coloured paste) or “Peek Metal Polish” (a pale blue paste).
Hagerty Silver & Multimetal Foam comes with its own sponge, Peek Polish should be used with a soft microfibre cloth.
For cleaning matt surfaces, I would recommend using ‘HAGERTY silver foam’, as this will remove any tarnishing without polishing away the (satin) matt surface finish. Using ‘PEEK polish’ may, over time, polish your matt surface finish, taking away some of the matt-brushed effect and making it appear more “shiny”.
After using ‘HAGERTY silver foam’, simply rinse your jewellery item with lukewarm water and dry with a clean, soft towel.
After using ‘PEEK polish’, use a clean area of your microfibre cloth to wipe away all of the paste. You will only need to use a small amount of paste.
Take care when cleaning jewellery with natural organic materials:
You will need to apply particular care when cleaning jewellery items with natural (organic) materials, like f. ex. pearls, mother-of-pearl, abalone shell, or coral. Organic materials will lose their lustre (shine) when coming into contact with metal polish, soap, lotions & creams, and perfume. This can also affect some stone beads.
It is NOT advisable to shower while wearing any jewellery, to put on lotions and/or creams or to spray on your perfume after having put on your jewellery. Always put on your jewellery last. Try to keep lotions, creams, and perfume away from the areas where your jewellery sits… to avoid it coming into contact with it. This applies particularly to wearing earrings… always spray on your perfume first, before putting on your earrings - better still: put on your perfume at a different place from the side of your neck where your earrings will dangle.
